On Friday and Saturday, April 17th and 18th, The Mahoning Drive-In Theater turns a page and invites you to enter the sinister stacks of Stephen King, the “King Of Horror”, with two nights of terrifying twofers you just can’t put down, based on his creepy classics! Celebrate the cinematic legacy of the man who’s terrified readers for over half a century. 67 novels, over 200 short stories, almost half a billion books sold, and over 50 films based on his dark dreams, four of the best of which hit the giant Mahoning screen on 35mm!
Friday brings to chilly thrillers to shock you to the bone, beginning with the story of a famous author held prisoner by his “number one” fan…she’s in heaven, he’s in…MISERY (1990)!
Kathy Bates stars as the admirer from hell, James Caan is the wounded wordsmith, and the late Rob Reiner directs this pitch-black comedy. With Richard Farnsworth, Frances Sternhagen, Lauren Bacall, and Misery The Pig as herself!
Once your nerves have calmed and your ankle has healed, we set off to a nice relaxing trip to while away the winter at the scenic Overlook Hotel. Jack Torrance accepts the position as caretaker for the sprawling, desolate resort in the snowy off-season, all alone with his wife and young son, the perfect opportunity to work on his novel. No distractions, no visitors, and no hotel guests…at least none who are living.
Stanley Kubrick directs the horror masterpiece, THE SHINING (1980). With Scatman Crothers and Barry Nelson.
Saturday night begins with David Cronenberg’s THE DEAD ZONE (1983), starring Christopher Walken as a man who emerges from a car accident with more than scars…it seems that he now can see the future, and what he sees is pure terror!
With Brooke Adams, Tom Skerritt, Martin Sheen and Herbert Lom.
We end the evening with the joyous and warm tale of the Creed family, and how their proximity to a popular logging route turns a relaxing move to rural Maine into an unholy nightmare, when things that shouldn’t be are buried in the PET SEMATARY (1989)!
With Dale Midkiff, Denise Crosby, Fred Gwynne and Miko Hughes, and directed by Mary Lambert.
Arrive early for themed food, raffles, a live DJ set and more frightful fun.
Gates open at 6pm. Showtime At Sundown.
All events are rain or shine. no refunds or transfers
