On Sunday, April 19th, The Mahoning Drive-In Theater’s “Indie Darlings” film series kicks off with the ultimate Midnight Movie, a visionary exploration of religious and American western iconography, Alejandro Jodorowsky’s EL TOPO (1970).Take a trip to a surreal desert landscape, where a black-clad gunfighter confronts all manner of strange and beautiful beings in a sometimes violent search for enlightenment, in this unforgettable and iconic 1970s Spanish Acid western.
One of the most talked about cult films of all time, and sure to melt your mind on the big, BIG screen. Featuring Alejandro Jodorowsky in the lead role, and featuring Alfonso Arau, “El Guapo” himself from Three Amigos! and director of LIKE WATER FOR CHOCOLATE!
“Indie Darlings” is an new ongoing series at The Mahoning Drive-In Theater, presenting films made by pioneers of the indie spirit, as well as notable independent films that made waves upon initial release, whose ripples are still felt to this day.
