Kinetic Connection
Kinetic Connection is a facilitated movement and expression practice. The scope of the practice includes exploring the primary human abilities of thought, movement, voice, emotion, imagination, and play.
The techniques and exercises are borrowed from, or developed out of, training methods from theatre, dance, singing and clown work.
While this can be viewed as an intensive professional development, your curiosity is a primary prerequisite. Participants will work at their own pace, governed by their experience level, and the place they are at physically and emotionally on the day.
The initial gateway to see if the practice is for you is a one day (7 hours) introduction workshop. This is a pre-requisite for evening classes which build skills over time.
Kinetic Connection introduces terminology, new language and frames of reference to assist in mapping the complex territories encountered within the worlds of experience and expression.
The work may augment your present practice(s) with discernments not usually discussed or recognized. These distinctions will likely enable you to clarify the references that your work currently relies upon.
The class environment is respectful of small steps and extensions with a focus on integration and building strong presence, resilience, agility and compassion. The first day will be an experiential introduction to the broad territory of Kinetic Connection.
Explorations of Kinetic Connection aim to:
· extend your ability to navigate within uncertainty, complexity and diversity
· improve self-facilitation of the innocence versus experienced lenses of perception
· deepen discernment with allegiances and boundaries and taboos
· clarify internal permissions and considerations of self-image
· increase your range and precision of expression, including emotionally
· build greater tolerance for encountering ambiguity, transitions and edges
· develop compassion for emotional expression in self and others
(Some examples) of models, issues, and territories explored in this work:
· Access to willingness and state change
· Articulating the apparent and the actual
· Allegiances, taboos, and historical permissions
· Four f's and biological memory imperatives
· Extending ability and capacity for resilience
· Principles of arena, ringmaster, scope, theme, ensemble
· The tolerance for being observed
· Stereotype and Character
· Emotional cocktails
· Imaginative worlds and masks
· The "argument structure" of habits and styles
· Scripted events and unscripted improvisation
· Recognizing and facilitating swings
· Rivering with cues, themes, scripts or unscripted
· Laban effort shape movement analysis
· Wolfsohn voice research inquiries
· Ensemble politics
· Meeting Corridors
The practice is an experiential education, examining personal and cultural narratives as they interact with biological imperatives within the realms of imagination, emotion and world views through movement, voice and expression.
