This special night showcases Nat Ripepi, Nathan Gaunt, Rose Parker and Trevor Jalla as these WAM-acclaimed artists combine forces to bring to life an evening of grunge and alternative rock: Unplugged and Re-Imagined. This is no copycat persona tribute, but instead one that allows the song and melody to inhabit a retrospective space that reflects the time that has passed since the alt-rock revolution first hit the airwaves. We the listeners have grown, and perhaps so has the way we connect with these songs that remain timeless, yet never static.
Gaunt and Jalla, performing as a new duo - "The Grunge Lizards" - kick the night off with a set of Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam with acoustic guitars and piano taking cornerstone positions in lieu of fuzzed-out amplifiers. Expect to hear familiar melodies and lyrical sentiments given new context as a re-imagined musical spotlight illuminates established hits from new perspectives.
As the night progresses, the duo step into the shoes of sidemen - handing centrestage over to the women of song as Nat and Rose bring to life classics by The Cranberries, Hole, Garbage, Spiderbait, Alice In Chains and of course, Alanis Morissette. Experience the power and nuance of emotion that can only come from the soul of road-travelled singer-songwriters who have lived and breathed their experiences through music, performing songs of those who have themselves harnessed their angst and trailblazed a path through the musical wilderness to artistic redemption.
This is music for the brave, and this evening invites the daring to partake.
