Kiln-formed Glass Plates & Coasters

Join us for an introduction to kiln-forming! During this course you will learn the basics of kiln-formed glass (aslo call fusing) while designing and making your very own functional glass plate or duo of coasters. Students will learn about glass cutting, glass colors, the fundamentals of fusing, and the subtlety of slumping (shaping the glass through heat). All materials and tools will be provided. Finished projects will be available for pick-up a few days after the course ends. Shipping may be arranged.

No previous experience is necessary.

Participants age 14+ are welcome. Parents or guardians must sign up alongside participants under the age of 18.

Michael Endo is an artist and curator originally from Portland, Oregon. He earned an MFA in painting from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Michigan, in 2009 and a BA from Portland State University, Oregon, in 2005. Endo is the Artistic Director of Pilchuck Glass School (Stanwood, Washington) and the curatorial consultant at Bullseye Projects, organizing exhibitions at The Byre and assisting with traveling exhibitions and art fairs. In addition to his curatorial and studio practices, he is a frequent lecturer and teaches classes at all levels. Recent course venues include The Studio at Corning Museum of Glass (NY)Penland School of Craft (Penland, NC), Bild-Werk Frauenau Academy (Frauenau, DE), Pilchuck Glass School (Standwood, WA), Urban Glass (Brooklyn, NY), and Northlands Creative (Lybster, UK).
