Kilgrimol Crafts: Spinning and Nalbinding
About this Event
Demonstrating the slowly vanishing skills that went into producing our clothing using natural materials.
Inspired by the Heritage Crafts Red List, we’re focusing on endangered crafts.
We'll supply
• All materials and tuition
• Hot/cold drinks and tasty snacks
This month
In this session we will be introducing more Heritage Crafts that are endangered in
the UK.
We’ll work with wool, transforming it from fleece to fibre using the drop
spindle. You’ll learn how to spin a length of yarn using one of the most ancient
textile tools.
Once you have your thread, where now?
Heather will introduce you to one of the oldest techniques for garment making,
Nålbinding. Referred to as working with the wool in Icelandic, all you need is your
fibre and a needle for the ultimate carry craft.
This session is in our upstairs workshop space. We have a lift! Otherwise it is fourteen steps turn a corner and two more steps. There is an accessible loo on the same floor.
