About this Event
5:30–7:00 PM – Bilingual Connections: Building Bridges in Health and Human Services
Join us for an engaging Keystone Session as part of the Kansas City Community of Bilingual Practice series. This session will feature a panel of bilingual practitioners sharing insights on the power of bilingualism in health and human services. Panelists will discuss strategies for leveraging language skills in professional settings, navigating career pathways, and advancing equitable access for multilingual communities.
This event is designed to foster connection, capacity building, and career access for bilingual professionals in Kansas City. Whether you're looking to expand your network, gain new perspectives, or explore opportunities in the field, this session will provide valuable takeaways.
7:00 PM – Opportunity Abounds: Environmental Justice
This session is focused on environmental justice. Everyone should be able to live in a clean, healthy environment. However, too often, those basic conditions are subject to how much money and influence you have. Poor and marginalized communities regularly bear the brunt of pollution, climate change and toxic environmental conditions. Fortunately, local innovators are illuminating these issues and providing the insights, community engagement and funding needed to help balance the scales.
Darren will be speaking with Sarah Byrd, Director of Data for mySidewalk, and Magali Rojas, Director of Environmental Justice for LivZero and Community Engagement Coordinator for the Heartland Environmental Justice Center. Together, they will share examples of environmental injustice in the Kansas City region, explore how Magali and Sarah's organizations are addressing those challenges, and identify gaps where innovators and social ventures are still needed.
