Kenny Garrett, one of modern jazz’s most influential saxophonists and composers, has built a storied career performing with legends such as Miles Davis, Art Blakey, Donald Byrd, Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, and the Duke Ellington Orchestra. For over three decades, his artistry as a solo bandleader has earned him a reputation as a creative force and GRAMMY® Award winner.
His latest album, Sounds From The Ancestors, captures the rich blend of jazz, R&B, gospel, and world influences that shaped his musical identity. Inspired by Detroit’s deep musical roots and guided by spirits of Coltrane, Aretha Franklin, and Marvin Gaye, Garrett bridges the sacred and the contemporary with music that’s both soulful and global. The album’s vibrant soundscape—spanning Afro-Cuban grooves, French and Nigerian rhythms, and gospel-inspired harmonies—reflects Garrett’s ongoing journey to honor the past while pushing jazz forward.
