Texas-born and based sculptor Ken Womack announces the dates for “GIANT, his first-ever solo exhibition, at the Museum of the Southwest in Midland, Texas. His solo show, inspired by the 1956 George Stevens film of the same name, starring James Dean and Elizabeth Taylor, will be on display June 11 through Sept. 13 during the museum's usual hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. To see details about the show, see www.museumsw.org/ken-womack.

This three month long solo exhibit will feature 25 large-scale sculptures drawn from several years of studio production including a number of never-before-exhibited pieces that span the full range of Womack’s practice. His work features American consumer products on a monumental scale with the materials left visible, all built from plywood, acrylic, pool noodles and discarded cable spools. The exposed nature of each piece denies any critique of the object, leaving it to the audience to interpret. Womack’s art is varied, it invites the viewer to reconsider what we consume, obsess over and idolize in America. Womack builds visual “remixes” of American culture - oversized, reimagined, and impossible to ignore. His work lives at the intersection of memory and spectacle.

As part of this exciting installation, Womack will be introducing one new piece to the exhibit every month of the three-month run

At the heart of his journey is a simple but powerful goal; to make work that connects. For more information on Ken Womack’s upcoming shows and events, see kenwomack.com
