About this Event
Keeper's Heart whiskey is made at the O'Shaughnessy Distillery in Minnesota, where they distill bourbon and rye, then blend it with Irish whiskey to create a delicious celebration of Irish-American heritage.
The O'Shaughnessy Distillery is only a few years old, but their whiskey team brings extensive experience to the table. Master Blender Brian Nation is the former master distiller of Ireland's Midleton Distillery (makers of Jameson, Red Breast, Midleton, and the Spot whiskeys). Working alongside Brian as an advisor is David Perkins, who founded High West Distillery in Park City, Utah. So you know this whiskey is done right!
Joining us for the event is Keeper's Heart distiller Kate Douglas, formerly the head distiller at Old Elk Distillery, who develops new mash bills and finishes Keeper's Heart whiskey in a variety of unique casks. She has a BS in Fermentation Science and Technology and a Diploma in Distilling, so she brings plenty of expertise to share with us!
We'll be celebrating the launch of a new style of whiskey, American Pot Still. It's a quintessential blend of American and Irish whiskey: with a mashbill of malted and unmalted barley (Irish) but using grain from the Midwest (American), triple-distilled in a pot still (Irish), and aged in virgin American oak barrels (American). This creates a full-bodied spirit with a distinctive character.
Plus we'll get to taste the components whiskeys that make up the unique Irish + American blend of Keeper's Heart Whiskey!
We'll start the evening with a welcome cocktail, then we'll taste the following whiskeys:
- Irish Grain Whiskey - a mashbill of corn and malt distilled in Ireland and aged for 4+ years in refill American bourbon barrels.
- Irish Pot Still Whiskey - a mashbill of malted and unmalted barley distilled in Ireland and aged for 4+ years in refill American bourbon barrels.
- Rye Whiskey - a mashbill of 95% rye aged for 4+ years in virgin American oak barrels.
- Keeper's Heart Irish + American - a blend of Irish grain whiskey, Irish pot still whiskey, and American rye whiskey. Nose: bright, floral, baking spices. Palate: candied ginger, vanilla, lemon zest, sweet biscuits, stewed fruit.
- Bourbon Whiskey - a mashbill of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley aged for 4+ years in virgin American oak barrels.
- Keeper's Heart Irish + Bourbon - a blend of Irish grain whiskey, Irish single pot still whiskey, and American bourbon (75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley mashbill). Nose: rich caramel in a freshly baked pecan pie. Palate: Peppery with some herbal notes and sweet with vanilla malt shake, cocoa, tootsie roll.
- American Pot Still Whiskey - a new twist on the traditional Irish pot still whiskey, using the classic blend of malted and unmalted barley from the Midwest, triple distilled in a copper pot still at Keeper's Heart and bottled at 46% abv. Nose: warm spices, honey, and dried fruit. Palate: creamy texture with layers of caramel, malt, and a hint of citrus.
We'll also have some appetizers from the delicious kitchen of Mrs. Murphy's to munch on. (Also note that the restaurant will be open before and after our event, if you want to check it out.)
This will be an exciting event with a chance to try a new whiskey style AND learn all the nitty gritty details from Kate Douglas herself! As usual, spots are limited so grab your ticket ASAP!
