About this Event

Learn a new skill, get fit, and meet some likeminded people, all in beautiful Pioneer Park in Mission Hills. Get your weekend started right, as you learn the basics of karate and self-defense from senior SKA (Shotokan Karate of America) blackbelts.

All skill-levels are welcome, especially beginners! Everyone from older teens, to adults, to seniors can benefit from karate. Learn self-defense, strengthen your entire body, improve your balance, efficiency of movement, breathing and overall health. No special equipment is needed.

This is a great opportunity to try a martial art with friendly, supportive people in idyllic surroundings.

About Peninsula San Diego Shotokan Karate

Our dojo has been teaching San Diegans for over 30 years. We are a nonprofit, focused on preserving and teaching traditional karate. You may have seen us at cultural festivals, including at the Japanese Friendship Garden.

Peninsula San Diego Shotokan Karate is member dojo of Shotokan Karate of America (SKA). SKA was founded by Tsutomu Ohshima, the last living godan (the highest rank in traditional karate) of Master Gichin Funakoshi, who is widely considered to be the father of modern karate. We are proud of our direct lineage from the founding of karate, as well as SKA’s unique status as the organizer of the oldest, continuously-run karate tournament in America.
