About Peninsula San Diego Shotokan Karate
Our dojo has been teaching San Diegans for over 30 years. We are a nonprofit, focused on preserving and teaching traditional karate. You may have seen us at cultural festivals, including at the Japanese Friendship Garden.
Peninsula San Diego Shotokan Karate is member dojo of Shotokan Karate of America (SKA). SKA was founded by Tsutomu Ohshima, the last living godan (the highest rank in traditional karate) of Master Gichin Funakoshi, who is widely considered to be the father of modern karate. We are proud of our direct lineage from the founding of karate, as well as SKA’s unique status as the organizer of the oldest, continuously-run karate tournament in America.
