This event is a collaboration between Slow Food International, Impacte ASBL, and Fermenthings, with the support of Slow Food. It takes place in the context of the Good Food Good Farming European Days of Action 2025, a month of activities across Europe highlighting food justice.
Coffee is more than a morning ritual. It is a global commodity with deep cultural roots, but also with heavy ecological and social costs. Behind each cup lies a story of colonial history, unfair labor practices, deforestation, and long transport chains that tie our habits to injustices across the globe.
At the heart of this event is the theme of food justice: the right to food, fair incomes for farmers, and access to healthy, sustainable diets. Together, we will explore how our daily choices connect to these larger struggles, and how reclaiming food sovereignty in Europe can support a fairer system for people and the planet.
Join us for a full day of taste, dialogue, and reflection:
14:00 – 16:00 | How to Escape Coffee – A Degustation Workshop
Explore the colonial history, ecological footprint, and labor behind coffee while tasting European alternatives such as chicory, barley, acorns, dandelion roots, and fermented grains. Brewing techniques include espresso, moka, and French press.

17:30 – 19:30 | Table d’hôte – Justice on the Table
A seasonal vegetarian and vegan dinner in collaboration with Jeremy, chef at Bel Mundo, using vegetables from Courjette and Belmundo, paired with house-made ferments. Every ingredient is traceable, celebrating biodiversity and fair incomes for farmers. Includes one homemade fermented drink.

20:00 | Film Screening – The Pickers (Elke Sasse, 2023)
Presented with the mobile cinema bike Cycle &Toile, this documentary exposes the often-invisible struggles of seasonal and migrant workers in Europe’s food system. After the film, an open discussion will reflect on what fair and just food really means.
