An MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) roda is a relaxed gathering of musicians, usually held in places like bars, squares or homes, where songs from the vast MPB repertoire are played and sung. MPB encompasses a variety of styles and influences, including bossa nova, samba, baião, tropicalismo and more, and is known for its poetic lyrics and catchy melodies.
The musicians sit in a circle (hence the name ‘roda’) and play various instruments, such as guitar, cavaquinho, keyboard, percussion and more. In the MPB roda, it's also common for singers to perform the songs, often with choir accompaniment from the other participants. The atmosphere is collaborative and everyone is encouraged to take part, whether by playing, singing, dancing or simply enjoying the music.
Taking part in an MPB roda is more than an opportunity to make and listen to music; it's a moment of social and cultural connection. People share their musical passions, exchange stories and experiences and strengthen bonds of friendship in a cosy and festive atmosphere.
Tom Itterbeek, Urban sketcher, is also inviting all professional and amateur artists to come and draw to the sound of the music, in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Os músicos se sentam em círculo (daí o nome "roda") e tocam diversos instrumentos, como violão, cavaquinho, teclado, percussão, entre outros. Na roda de MPB, também é comum a presença de cantores que interpretam as músicas, muitas vezes com acompanhamento de coro dos outros participantes. O ambiente é colaborativo, e todos são incentivados a participar, seja tocando, cantando, dançando ou simplesmente apreciando a música.Participar de uma roda de MPB é mais do que uma oportunidade de fazer e ouvir música; é um momento de conexão social e cultural. As pessoas compartilham suas paixões musicais, trocam histórias e experiências e fortalecem laços de amizade em um ambiente acolhedor e festivo.
