About this Event

Join GLIDE’s Rabbi Michael Lezak, Social Justice Director and UCSF’s Leanna Lewis in a intimate conversation with Ainka Jackson, Executive Director at the Selma Center for Non-Violence. Not only is Ms. Jackson one of the anchor-teachers on GLIDE’s Alabama Justice Pilgrimages, but she is also renowned activist and educator on the national stage.

Ms. Jackson challenges audiences in love to fulfill the first principle of racial equity: know thyself. “When we don’t do the work, we make others work more.” From addressing institutional challenges to personal cultural shifts needed, Ainka inspires audiences to do the work necessary for transformation.

"Ainka Jackson is an American treasure. She is a luminous and spellbinding teacher, a deeply compassionate, fiercely righteous activist and a bedrock force of goodness. Her old-world soul not only summons prophetic visions of America at its very best, but she also points us towards healing and redemptive practices and pathways that will actualize those visions"- Rabbi Michael Lezak

Founding Executive Director, The Selma Center for Nonviolence

Ainka Jackson is the founding executive director of the Selma Center for Nonviolence, Truth and Reconciliation, an organization committed to creating Selma 2.0 by bridging divides and building the Beloved Community. Born in Montgomery and raised in Selma, Ainka appreciates that every successful legal and legislative movement required a people's movement. She helps to organize the community to address racial and economic inequities. She is co-creator of the Beyond Divide and Conquer: Unite and Build Racial Equity Training and is a level 3 certified Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation trainer. Previously a foster care case manager, teacher and public defender, she understands the necessity of personal, cultural, and institutional change. She is also the creator of the Selma Superheroes Children’s Book Series.

GLIDE’s Center for Social Justice works to influence public policy and perception on justice and human rights. Our policy advocacy, community organizing, experiential education, and thought leadership seeks to drive social change by amplifying community voices, influencing mindsets, creating new cultural practices, and transforming institutions of power.
