Looking for a creative way to spend the school holidays?
Join us for 3 inspiring days of designing, crafting, and creating outfits for j2f's catwalk showcase!
Whether you're putting the finishing touches on a current masterpiece or starting a brand-new Wearable Art creation from scratch, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to unleash your imagination.
Choose from our four creative material categories:
📄 Paper & Cardboard (Pulp Fiction)
♻️ Plastics, Metal & E-Waste (Meet-al Gala)
🧶 Fabrics (Fabricated)
🌿 Natural Fibres (He Kakano)

Our holiday workshop is open to everyone.
At Junk to Funk, we celebrate shared creativity and the connections that grow when people of all ages come together to exchange skills, stories, and inspiration.
Building community is at the heart of the Junk to Funk kaupapa.
+ Children under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

9:00 am – 3:00 pm daily
🌱 Day 1 – Tuesday 15th July
9:00 am Meet @ Ostend Skate Park before heading to the Waiheke Community Resource Recovery Park.
-Explore Waiheke's waste stream, learn about resource recovery, Design your garments.
AFTER LUNCH
-Hunt for creative treasures from the Tahi rd Recovery shop & our material collections.
Weather permitting, we'll enjoy a play break and lunch at the Skate Park.
✂️ Days 2 & 3 – Wednesday 16th & Thursday 17th July
9:00am Meet @ Miami Avenue, Surfdale, in Creative space.
Pick up 2:30 - 3pm
These @days will focus on bringing your designs to life through hands-on making, sewing, and construction.
🧵 What You'll Learn
With mentors Hana Kumagai and Bea Lorimer
and support from coordinators Denisa Ko and Baraka,
Participants will receive plenty of hands-on guidance and creative encouragement.
We'll also be welcoming experienced guest mentors who will share their favourite tips, tricks, and techniques.
Workshop highlights include:
✨ Sketching and design development
✨ Sewing and construction techniques
✨ Costume and wearable art design strategies
✨ Transforming recycled materials into extraordinary creations
