Juniorpalooza -Fundraiser for Lifeline
Loserpalooza is now in its 8th year, but we concede that it has never been a youth-focused event. And while Totara Street has, for the last couple of years, graciously allowed those under 18 to attend with their legal guardian, it has never really given them the full Loser experience. And for this, we apologise as they are the ones who could and should benefit most from this event.
If I could have my time again, I would pick any age except my teenage years. What a helpless period of crippling self-awareness and hopelessness. Never did I think I was a bigger loser from the ages of 13-18 - a pimple-faced, puss-filled mess, unable to approach the opposite sex, let alone have it... awkwardly fumbling and bumbling through school, home, and life without much success at anything that didn’t involve a Postie Plus lingerie pamphlet. Luckily, I found music in various forms and outlets, thus saving me from darker days. And we hope that music can be the light for those currently going through their own hormonal fist fight. You are not alone. You are surrounded by losers.
My name is Austin. I was called a loser. I still am a loser. And I am proud to be one. If you are reading this, then you too are probably a loser and I’m proud to have you as one of us.
So, in conjunction with Ryan Greenwood (YouRyanabler Presents), we welcome you to the first annual Juniorpalooza. Held at the esteemed Okahukura on Grey Street this Loserpalooza Eve, Friday 14th August, 630pm. As is the case with Loserpalooza, this is a koha fundraiser for Lifeline in order to help raise funds for them to continue their essential service in suicide prevention and awareness. So please give kindly.
Joining us for the evening:
Brain Squash
The Mindless
Spud
Hang Time
And if you can find a kindly relative who will happily be your legal guardian and not embarrass you too much with their presence, then we welcome you along to Loserpalooza the next day at Totara Street from 12pm-7pm. 25 bands. 2 stages. Koha entry (all proceeds go to Lifeline).
And please, if you are thinking about suicide, call the Lifeline Crisis Helpline for support.
