Pack your bags and prepare for adventure!
This camp combines mathematics, exploration and problem-solving in a series of exciting travel-themed challenges. Through hands-on activities, games and puzzles, children will put their logical thinking and decision-making skills to the test as they embark on a journey of discovery.
In this camp children will be invited to go on an imaginary journey. Modelling real-life situations, our activities will encourage children to solve the mathematical problems every traveller deals with:
• reading a map and calculating distances
• managing a budget by calculating hotel costs and comparing travel deals
• understanding timetables and estimating travel times
• decoding messages written in unfamiliar languages
Children will tackle all these challenges through a variety of exciting games and problems. They will practise extracting information from charts and tables and learn about compound measures like speed and cost per mile while developing decision-making skills.
Pupils will also:
- learn about Programming - how it works, how much fun it is and ‘debugging’ - the process of each child checking their work if the programme doesn’t run and trying to fix it themselves. We develop new coding projects for every camp.
- have a daily Electronics class, where they will learn about circuitry and magnetic fields as they work on their Treasure Hunt Project, building a working model of a metal detector. Campers will discover how their detector sends out an electromagnetic field and ‘listens’ for a response which the detector’s receiver coil picks up to alert the user. Once completed and checked to make sure it really can find treasure, campers will take their project home to demonstrate what they have learned and achieved.
- enjoy Chess: the primary goal for the youngest and newest players will be to learn the basic rules of chess and begin playing. More advanced players will be coached in strategy and tactics and how to improve their game. To develop a child’s interest in chess, we present it as an exciting game of protecting one’s kingdom and its inhabitants. Research shows that playing chess regularly helps children achieve better results in maths and sciences, enhances language skills and memory and, most importantly, improves decision making which is why many countries teach it as a part of the school curriculum.
This is a five day camp that runs from 9am to 12pm or 1pm to 4pm - but not both. Each three hour day is divided into four classes with comfort breaks and opportunities to stop for drinks and a snack.
Learning groups are very small with a pupil to teacher ratio of 6 to 1 tailored for each child’s age and level of experience with the subject to provide appropriate levels of simplicity or complexity.
We prepare new content, materials and exciting projects for every camp. Even if your child has joined us for previous camps they will always learn new things and cover new subjects.
