The Friends of Brower Park, along with Community Partner Organizations, will host Juneteenth in Brower Park 2026 : I Am Somebody, our annual Juneteenth celebration on Friday, June 19 from 11am-3pm.
This FREE family-friendly event, themed "I Am Somebody" is in homage to Jesse Jackson's eponymous poem that encouraged black youth and poor Americans to demand respect and know their self-worth, regardless of their circumstances; and will feature live performances, visual art, interactive activities, and community engagement from organizations like AARP, the Local Development Corp of Crown Heights, Field Meridians, and more.
The special commemoration will be presented in partnership with the Brooklyn Children's Museum, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Brooklyn Public Library – Brower Park Library, the Crown
Heights North Association, Council Member Chi Osse, Harvest Home Farmer's Market, One Crown Heights, and Repair the World.
Juneteenth offers the opportunity to acknowledge hard truths from U.S. history, celebrate the
liberation of the enslaved ancestors of African Americans, and work together to advance racial
healing, equity, and justice in our communities.
The day will feature performances by Brooklyn United Marching Band, a choral performance by the Medgar Evers College Preparatory School Choir, story time by Tammy Hall, a dance performance by Brooklyn Ballet, and a jazz fellow led performance by the Alexandria DeWalt quartet.
There will also be free book giveaways courtesy of Brooklyn Book Bodega along with activations by Street Lab, BEMAC, and St. John's University, and much more!
