This conversation will explore the journey toward freedom, the strength of our ancestors, and the wisdom that continues to guide our community forward today.For nearly three decades, Deborah "Dee" Evans has been a driving force in the movement to preserve and honor the legacy of Juneteenth. As the founder of Juneteenth Nevada and a national leader within the NJOF, her tireless advocacy was instrumental in the 2023 landmark legislation that officially established Juneteenth as a Nevada state holiday.
Beyond her legislative achievements, Dee is a dedicated community builder. Her work focuses on bridging history with the future through:
Educational Outreach: Ensuring the true story of June 19, 1865, remains a central part of our cultural consciousness.
Youth Empowerment: Mentoring the next generation of leaders through the Miss Juneteenth Nevada program and various youth initiatives.
Cultural Celebration: Coordinating large-scale events that celebrate freedom, resilience, and the richness of African American heritage.
With over 28 years of grassroots leadership, Dee continues to expand the reach of Juneteenth Nevada, turning a historical milestone into a year-round movement for education, unity, and progress.
