July Translated Fiction Book Club, at Heffers Bookshop
About this Event
Pedro Paramo is a masterful slice of Latin American surrealism, expertly translated from the Spanish in this modern edition by Douglas Weatherford. When a young man makes a promise to his dying mother to find his father, Pedro Paramo, who absconded many years before, he finds himself on a journey across rural Mexico. A parched and dusty road leads him to a ghost town. Comola is haunted by a multitude of voices and memories. The most notable spectre? The eponymous and ineffable Pedro Paramo: patriarch, murderer, myth.
We'll be meeting in the secondhand section on the shop's basement floor. Come along for tea, biscuits, and a laid back discussion of this wonderful work.
