Join or Die Community Film Screening
About this Event
What happens when we stop joining clubs, attending community gatherings, volunteering, and simply spending time with one another?
Join , the Poulsbo branch of the , and the City of Poulsbo for a free community screening of , the Emmy-nominated feature documentary exploring America’s decades-long decline in civic engagement — and why rebuilding connection may be more important than ever.
Based on the work of legendary social scientist Robert Putnam, author of Bowling Alone, Join or Die looks at how the groups, clubs, associations, and informal communities we participate in shape not only our own sense of belonging, but the health of our communities and democracy.
Following the film, we’ll spend some time talking about what connection and civic life can look like right here in Poulsbo and Kitsap County — and how each of us can play a part in strengthening our community.
Whether you’re already deeply involved in your community, looking for new ways to connect, or simply curious about the film, you’re invited.
The best part? The conversation doesn’t end when the credits roll!
Keep the Conversation Rolling
Free copies of Robert Putnam’s Bowling Alone, the companion book to Join or Die, will be available at the screening while supplies last.
Pick up a copy, read along, and then join Kitsap Regional Library and the City of Poulsbo on Saturday, November 7 from 2–4 PM at Poulsbo City Hall for a Community Read discussion exploring civic engagement, curiosity, and community connection.
Come watch a film, meet some neighbors, and maybe leave inspired to join something.
