The Sanctuary Studio is pleased to welcome back Dr. John Reynolds for an evening of inspired jazz featuring special guest saxophonist Julius Tolentino.
A respected performer, educator, and Director of Instrumental Music at the Orange County School of the Arts, Dr. Reynolds has spent decades shaping the next generation of musicians while maintaining an active career as both a jazz artist and classical performer. His thoughtful musicianship, deep command of the tradition, and collaborative spirit have made him one of Southern California’s most influential musical voices.
Joining him for this special performance is Julius Tolentino, one of the most accomplished saxophonists and jazz educators working today. A fixture of the New York jazz scene for more than two decades, Tolentino has performed and recorded alongside artists including Louis Hayes, Christian McBride, Roy Hargrove, Natalie Cole, Dianne Reeves, Wycliffe Gordon, and the Mingus Big Band. A student of legendary saxophonist Jackie McLean and an internationally respected educator, Tolentino brings a profound connection to the jazz tradition along with a deeply expressive and energetic musical voice.
Together, Reynolds and Tolentino will lead a quartet featuring some of Southern California’s finest musicians:
John Reynolds — Trumpet
Julius Tolentino — Saxophone
Sam Ross — Piano
Mackenzie Leighton — Bass
Tyler Kreutel — Drums
Join us for a rare opportunity to hear two master improvisers in conversation, exploring the rich language of jazz through standards, spontaneous interplay, and the shared spirit of the music.
