EVENING ~ JOE HALL ~ LIFE CELEBRATION
On November 21, 2024, Acadiana lost one of its greats — the legendary Creole and Zydeco accordion playing and band leader Joe Hall. As a friend of Joe’s I was deeply saddened when I heard of his passing, having danced to his sounds and grooves for years. Last I knew Joe was putting finishing touches on a documentary exploring and sharing the roots of his music, the traditional Louisiana French Creole “La La” musical form from which Zydeco music and dance emerged. Together we shall explore and immerse ourselves in the Joe Hall’s magic “La La”.
JOE HALL ~ DOCUMENTARY (6pm screening / 6:30 Q&A) - “Who’s That Playing My Box?” … In early December I learned it was completed when the director, Clara Riedlinger from Rochester, reached out asking me to spread word about the film’s PREMIERE here in Rochester at the Little Theatre. I was blown away to learn the filmmaker who spent the last 3 years of Joe’s life crafting his story was from Rochester … what were the chances of that ?!?!?!? On Sunday Jan 18th, we’ll be hosting a special screening of “Who’s That Playing My Box?” at the Harmony House, with a Q&A led by the Director Clara Riedlinger.
• Preview - Who's That Playing My Box?
JOE HALL ~ ZYDECO DANCE PARTY (7-9pm) - Joe has long been admired by many for his authenticity, musicianship, and his mission of music and cultural preservation. Yet it will ultimately be Joe’s natural ability to inspire people to dance, dance, dance you’ll be able to experience first-hand at The Harmony House during RCZN’s “Joe Hall - DJed/VJed Zydeco Dance Party”.
Not only will we be spinning Joe Hall’s discs to dance to, but we’ll also have Joe Hall playing for you LIVE on video for your dancing pleasure showing many of his concerts captured in Louisiana and Europe. No better way to celebrate Joe Hall’s Life and Legacy than having a Zydeco Dance Party featuring the music of Joe Hall and the Louisiana Canecutters.
