Library Assistant Vacancies - Part-time

Our libraries are the beating hearts of our communities, and we are looking for part-time Library Assistants to come and join our friendly and supportive teams at Central Library in Manchester. These are permanent jobs and offer the benefits of working for a large local authority.

Position Title: Library Assistant

Salary: Grade 3 £25,583 - £25,989 (bar at £25,583) per annum pro rata 
Enhancements are paid for weekend working – time and a half for Saturdays and double time for Sundays.

Contract type: Permanent, part time (subject to a 24-week probation)

Hours: 5 x 12-hour posts.

Weekend and evening work essential: For all posts, you will be required to work a Saturday/Sunday each week (every Sunday from January 2026). 
Work Location: Libraries across Manchester. 
 
Manchester Residency: These posts are only open to people who live in the Manchester City Council area.

If you are a people person, have experience and understanding of delivering excellent customer service, along with strong IT skills, then please come and talk to us.

You would:

· Be the first point of contact for customers:

· Provide information and deal effectively with customer enquiries, including helping with IT enquiries.

· Carry out general library duties, help with the security of buildings and basic health & safety tasks, handle and bank cash.

· Support a wide range of events and activities for all ages at Central Library.

· Be willing to work at any library or location as and when required.

We have an evening session where you can come and find out about the range of services delivered and the reality of working for libraries, not the fiction. Our library managers will talk individually to everyone who attends, to see whether you have the skills and expertise for this new chapter in your life. Please bring your CV to the Open Evening.
