About this Event
Most agencies do not allocate nearly enough time for training potentially life-saving grappling techniques and principles. We are organizing this workshop in order to give back to those who protect us and to teach grappling in a fun and practical way.
Who it's this workshop for?
It is for active duty local and federal law enforcement officers. Our academy's members work in just about every agency - SDPD, SDCS, CHP, CBP, SWAT, FBI, DHS, DEA and others. They benefit from the confidence that their hand-to-hand skills are far above average, and we want to help more LEOs operate with the same feeling.
IDs will be checked at the door to prove active duty status.
What will you learn?
The workshop will consist of instruction starting on the feet, with a selection of appropriate takedowns based on common situations. Those takedowns will be linked to control positions (pinning) and cuffing opportunities.
There will also be guided situational training with resistance, and the opportunity to train with Legion black belts.
Who's teaching?
- Oscar Magana - Jiu-jitsu black belt, active duty CBP officer, advocate for grappling training in LEAs.
- Miha Perhavec - Judo & Jiu-jitsu black belt, former MMA fighter, Legion AJJ co-founder, creator of the premier beginner grappling program in America.
- Sloan Clymer - Jiu-jitsu black belt, former corrections officer, active pro MMA fighter, Legion AJJ head no-gi instructor.
Is previous jiu-jitsu experience required?
No, absolutely not. This workshop is open to people who have not trained grappling beyond their mandated training and several instructors specialize in teaching beginners.
Who is organizing this?
Legion American Jiu-Jitsu is San Diego's premier grappling academy, located in Miramar. Established in 2019, we have instructed thousands of people from all walks of life, including plenty of local and federal LEOs and military members. We believe that jiu-jitsu skills are crucial for keeping everyone safe in volatile situations. This is why this workshop is free and all LEOs are warmly invited.
