About this Event
Join us for a free Jiu-Jitsu class exclusively for firefighters. Learn practical self-defense, control, and grappling techniques at no cost for active and retired firefighters. No experience required!
Meet your instructors:
Miha Perhavec: Co-founder of Legion AJJ. Black belt in both jiu-jitsu & judo. International competitor and author of Modern Submission Grappling: A No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu Manual.
Adam Johnson: Retired firefighter with 22 years of experience. Purple belt World Championship medalist.
Why are we doing this?
We have several firefighters training at Legion AJJ and they tell us about two ways in which jiu-jitsu is very helpful to them.
One, as first responders they sometimes show up to the scene first and may need to restrain violent individuals, especially as paramedics.
Two, the job can be very taxing and traumatic and they find grappling their friends and trying to choke them to be very calming and almost therapeutic.
But starting jiu-jitsu can also be stressful, that's why we're organizing an event specifically for the firefighter community, so that we can do some training together, with experienced grapplers helping the new guys get a good idea about what jiu-jitsu is!
What you'll gain:
- Practical self-defense and control techniques
- Camaraderie with fellow first responders
- Introduction to Jiu-Jitsu Fundamentals
- A great workout
