Jimmy is a bearer of Scottish traditional song, born on Uist & raised speaking Gaelic & English. He learned from the great source singers like Jeannie Robertson, Jimmie McBeath & the Stewarts of Blair & sings ‘with a craftsmanship & intensity which makes the senses tingle’ (The Scotsman). He is also a highly-skilled handloom weaver.JImmy will give us two forty-five minute spots and the rest of the evening is filled by members of the audience performing a song or tune if they wish.
Everyone is welcome, especially if you'd like to sing or play. We mostly sing and play traditional music from the British Isles, but we enjoy other styles as well. We always start off with some English dance tunes for anyone with an instrument to join in.
On Sunday 7th. June Jimmy leads a ballad forum from 10:45 - 16:15. Places are £45 (2 under-25-year-olds £22). Email valmaigoodyear[at]aol[dot]com to reserve places, bring cash on the day. Choose a couple of ballads in advance which you are happy to sing & discuss with the group. If in doubt about what counts as a ballad, call or email Valmai to discuss.
