Whether with humor, oddball characters or story songs Jim’s writing has avoided the personal narrative that is the stock and trade of the ‘singer songwriter’. Surrounded by a world that is complex and nuanced he has written about themes both stirring, absurd, lighthearted and heartbreaking. As a musician, Jim has had the privilege of playing with extraordinary bands; this year he was thrilled to do tour dates with Alligator recording artist Chris O’Leary and is a founding member of The Rhythm Bones who bring a unique brand of New Orleans funk to venues all over North Carolina.
Jim’s a piano player influenced by his upbringing in south Louisiana where Cajun, zydeco, blues and country music all blend in a heady aural gumbo. The influence of Ray Charles, and Dr John is unmistakable in his playing and with 3 CDs released to date and a new release on the way Jim will continue to tell stories in his own singular voice.
