Jim Basnight – Rock & Roll Legacy

Jim Basnight is a Seattle-based singer, guitarist, and songwriter whose career spans over four decades across Seattle, New York, and Los Angeles. He first emerged in the late '70s with his band The Moberlys, earning critical acclaim and playing a key role in Seattle’s pre-grunge rock scene.

After moving to New York and later Los Angeles, Jim worked with renowned musicians and producers, including Peter Buck of R.E.M., while recording for EMI and other international labels. Though his early major-label deals didn’t yield full releases, Jim continued recording and performing relentlessly, eventually founding his own label, Precedent, and releasing a string of solo and group albums.

Back in the Northwest, Jim fronted the Rockinghams and led the Jim Basnight Band, playing up to 200 shows a yearacross the western U.S. He also co-wrote the musical Little Rock and launched a research project and biography on blues icon Sonny Boy Williamson.

His recent works, including “Not Changing” and “Jokers, Idols and Misfits”, received international praise. He's had over 75 commercial releases, and his songs have been featured alongside legends like Cheap Trick, the Cars, Todd Rundgren, and the Ramones on UK label box sets.

Jim has shared the stage with icons such as The Police, the Ramones, Billy Idol, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam, and continues to be recognized as a cornerstone of American power pop and independent rock.
