Saloons, Stores, and Schools: many small Humboldt communities had one of each of these buildings and not much else. We’ll look at: Loleta’s Palace Saloon, where four men and boy stand ready to greet patrons; the Myers Flat store, with U.S. Grant Myers himself standing with other local idlers; and the picturesque Iaqua School, which closed in 1918 but for decades served as a local dance venue and landmark. Now modern-day imbibers, shoppers, and young
scholars can stare at such scenes and briefly regret what they have missed.
