JEREMY BRETT: BECOMING SHERLOCK
Written and performed by Mark Farrelly
In this brand-new solo play, writer and performer Mark Farrelly (Quentin Crisp: Naked Hope, Howerd’s End, Jarman) explores the life of much-loved actor Jeremy Brett, who for many remains the greatest Sherlock Holmes of all.
Jeremy Brett took on the mantle of Sherlock Holmes in 1984 in the classic Granada Television series, following a hugely successful career on stage and screen, including playing Freddie Eynsford-Hill in My Fair Lady opposite Audrey Hepburn, and working at the National Theatre for his hero Laurence Olivier.
But although he played Holmes on screen for a decade, Jeremy was, unbeknown to most, battling severe mental and physical health problems, which at times made it almost impossible to perform. His story is one of relentless courage in the face of tremendous odds – and hope.
Come on a journey into the life of an extraordinary human being, who dazzled the world with his unforgettable performance of one of the greatest figures in literature. And discover why every second of life is truly worth living.
Running time: 75 mins approx
