This month you’ll hear three people share personal stories to spark inspiration, possibility & spread joy. From discovering a new purpose or passion to making bold changes or simple shifts that transform life. Each story is unique. The magic is in the pivotal moments that will be shared to inspire you ✨

- Come with friends or solo & meet others

- Doors open: 7.00pm grab a drink at the bar
- Intro & stories: 7.30pm Ballroom

- Event ends: 9.30pm (bar stays open so feel free to linger)

Tickets are non refundable and non-transferable. EventBrite fees are included in the ticket price and as such paid by me the organiser out of the advertised ticket price. If you don't attend for any reason, your ticket price, less fees will be donated to the charity of the month.

Molly Somers is a Mum and full-time carer to Morven, she lives in South West Cornwall.
Her story title is: Care, Courage & Contentment as a Medical Mum
This is the first time Molly has spoken publicly about being a mum to her beautiful blessing Morv, who has a rare neurological condition. She will talk about how they take each day as it comes together and relinquish predefined boxes of disability ‘to write their own story.’
Molly will provide insights into why affording someone the highest level of care and love is a real privilege. And how love and a connection, deeper than words, can be a light through trauma. Along with how they’ve found their happy, ‘whilst sailing their own boat.’
A bit about Molly
Molly is a (nearly!) 30 year old Mum to 3 year old Morven, which means child of the sea in Celtic and dachshund, Beanie. She was born and raised in southwest Cornwall.
She dedicates her whole being to giving Morv the best life he so deserves. His rare diagnosis means she has become a nurse, neurologist, physiotherapist, researcher and advocate for his needs. But they are not defined by a medical diagnosis.
Fundraising for Morven
They are currently fundraising to buy a robotic gait trainer called a Trexo machine. This piece of equipment will allow Morv to experience movement and independence in a way that is simply not possible for him right now. It’s about more than walking. It’s about supporting Morv’s physical development, bone density and muscles and se he can experience our beautiful world upright. Read all about it in the link below.

Libita Sibungu is an award winning multi-disciplinary artist, audio -visual poet and disobedient woman living in Penzance.
Her story title is: My story can change? (Art - Mothering - Sobriety)
Five years ago Libita moved back to Penzance. She grew up here & never thought she’d come back. Perhaps a post pandemic move? But move back she did, as a solo parent to her son Sol. Maybe something else carried them back here?
As Libita listened to the stories at the last ISK, three words came to her mind; art, mothering, sobriety. Did she dare bring them together? In a bid to embody her authentic, integrated self. Libita said yes I will! She will reflect on the last five years and the role art & sobriety have played in her survival.
A bit about Libita
As an artist, Libita draws on her British-Namibian-Cornish heritage to make discursive works that explore entangled personal histories, and colonial legacies inscribed in the body and land.
She is the recipient of the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Arts Future Foundation awards (2022). Her work has been presented internationally, including at; Tate Modern, Kunsthall Trondheim, Sonsbeek, Gasworks, and Somerset House.
Libita has a major solo exhibition ‘ZED LOVE’ at Newlyn Gallery & The Exchange (Penzance) until 31st October.

Sarah Thorpe is a former gallery owner and artist. She lives in Newlyn, Cornwall.
Her story title is: How I Found My Father
Sarah’s father left when she was a baby. She knew he was from Trinidad, with Indian ancestry. Growing up she’d always felt different from those around her. She always wanted to find him, to find her missing jigsaw piece.
Sarah will share how serendipity and courage took her on a voyage to the Caribbean to find her father.
A bit about Sarah
Sarah worked in the music business but left it to raise her sons as a solo parent in Tobago. She built a home and guesthouses next to her father’s, overlooking the Caribbean Sea. 8 years later she decided to bring the boys back to England, via a trip round the world.
She yearned to live by the sea again and a chance encounter in India led Sarah to Newlyn. She was all set to move to Cornwall when she was diagnosed with leukaemia. After many rounds of chemo, she’s now in remission and living her best life in West Penwith with her partner Mark.
Sarah studied art at Bristol School of Art & ran a successful art gallery, Room 212 for 15 years. She also bought and ran a bar and turned it into a music and event space!

Zoe Swan lives in Newlyn with her husband Brian and beagles Maltie & Rasmus. She loves Cornwall & is inspired daily by the many and varied stories she hears people share about their lives in the county.
She has 25 years plus of curating events and was previously the co-host of Inspiring Talks Brighton. Zoe is a former, multiple award-winning senior lecturer in law, qualified barrister, kundalini yoga teacher, health coach and holder of closing ceremonies.
Zoe’s believes everyone has a story that can inspire others & that’s why she’s created Inspiring Stories Kernow. To bring together community through the sharing of personal stories.
