LAYERS — Technical Cutting Class

Layers are not one haircut. They are a technique — and once you understand the principles behind it, you can create countless shapes and designs.

This class is about moving beyond copying a haircut and learning to understand why a shape works.

We’ll break down the relationship between shape, elevation, direction, movement and volume, and how changing each element changes the final result.

The goal is not to memorize one haircut. It’s to give you a system you can use behind the chair — so you can analyze a shape, adapt it to your client, and create your own designs with intention and control.

Info: Live LAYERS demonstration with step-by-step explanation of shape, elevation, direction, movement and volume. We’ll discuss not only how to execute the technique, but why each decision changes the final result.

HANDS-ON

Info: Students recreate the demonstrated principles on their own mannequin or live model. I’ll guide you step by step throughout the process — we’ll analyze the shape, troubleshoot together, discuss your questions and make corrections as we go. IMPORTANT: MANNEQUINS ARE NOT PROVIDED. Please bring your own mannequin or arrange a live model.

Info: We’ll be in the heart of beautiful SoHo, surrounded by Eataly and plenty of great places to eat.

While the venue is being prepared for the second part of the masterclass, we’ll have a lunch break outside. Everyone can grab a bite, take a walk, and enjoy SoHo before we continue.
