As an educator, John has taught jazz piano and jazz voice at Cal State Long Beach, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Fullerton, and Azusa Pacific University. Currently, he creates content for an online jazz piano education website called pianowithjonny.com.
As a composer, John has co-written songs recorded by Nancy Wilson, Melissa Manchester, Al Jarreau, Mary Stallings, and Deana Martin. He has written arrangements for Ann Hampton Callaway, Antonia Bennett, and Linda Purl.
John’s new book of original piano pieces, "Soundscapes," is designed for intermediate pianists interested in learning more about jazz harmony through accessible compositions. Digital copies are available at http://www.johnproulx.com, and paperback versions can be purchased on Amazon.
Maya Proulx Maya Proulx has been performing piano, viola, and writing her own songs since she was four years old. A high school senior, she has studied creative writing, classical and jazz guitar, and classical and jazz voice.
She has composed music for the Pasadena Chorale and various short films and is currently working with Brightwork Ensemble’s high school composing initiative. Maya was named a 2024 YoungArts winner with distinction in Jazz Voice and was nominated for the Presidential Scholar Award, the highest honor of the organization.
