Jazz LIVE at Marine View featuring the Jovino Santos Neto Quinteto

Formed in 1993, the Latin Grammy-nominated Jovino Santos Neto Quinteto has become one of the most important creative music ensembles on the West Coast. Prior to moving to Seattle, the Brazilian master pianist, composer and arranger Jovino Santos Neto (www.jovisan.net) had been closely affiliated with his mentor, the famed Brazilian Hermeto Pascoal and was an integral part of Pascoal’s group from 1977-1992, where he fine-tuned his artistry, performed around the world and co-produced several legendary records. Jovino’s personal style is a blend of energetic grooves, deep harmonies, telepathic improvisation, lyrical melodies and great ensemble playing, always inspired and informed by the colorful richness of Brazilian music.  In addition to leading his Quinteto, Jovino taught piano and composition at Cornish College of the Arts for 26 years and has performed around the world and recorded prolifically as a piano soloist, working with symphony orchestras, jazz big bands, chamber music groups and famed musicians. The Quinteto have been voted several times the Best Acoustic Jazz Ensemble of the year by readers of Earshot Jazz Magazine.  In addition to Jovino on piano, flute and melodica, the other members of the Quinteto are Ben Thomas on vibraphone and bandoneon, Tim Carey on acoustic and electric basses, Mark Ivester on drums and Jeff Busch on percussion. Don’t miss an exciting evening of Brazilian jazz in the beautiful confines of Marine View.
