Japanese Woodblock Printing Workshop

Try your hand at mokuhanga, the traditional Japanese technique of water-based woodblock printing, in a relaxed, hands-on workshop led by artist Paul Furneaux.
Paul will guide you through the process, from carving and cutting woodblocks to applying watercolour pigments and transferring your designs onto Japanese paper using a traditional baren. You'll experiment with colour, texture and layering to create your own unique prints.
Alongside Paul's usual materials, we'll be giving some of our own timber offcuts a new purpose, using material that would otherwise go to waste as part of the creative process.
Paul's own practice draws on traditional Japanese woodblock printing techniques and explores how they can be used in contemporary ways. This is a chance to learn directly from him, get creative and see timber from a slightly different perspective.
We'll have drinks and nibbles throughout the evening too, with plenty of opportunity to chat and connect with others from Glasgow's architecture and design community.
No previous printmaking experience is needed. You'll create your own prints to take home. We’ll have some aprons available, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer.
This event is specifically for those working within the architecture and design community.
Please arrive from 4:45pm, ready for the workshop to begin at 5pm.
Places are limited to 16 to keep the workshop small and hands-on. If you book a place and can no longer make it, please cancel your ticket so we can offer it to someone else.
