Japanese Painting Workshop with Matcha Latte's

We’re Floating Art, a small arts business based in the North. We’ve been teaching people how to paint here for over 8 years now.

We’ll teach you some basics of the Japanese Painting style known as Nihonga (日本画) and teach you how to paint using traditional materials that includes bamboo brushes, sumi ink, Gansai Tambi 顔彩耽美 (Traditional Japanese colours), gold leaves on rice paper.

The seasons are a big part of Japanese culture and for that reason we keep the themes and topics of our workshops seasonal. We’ll bring a large selection of topical references from a wide range of Japanese Artists, both classic and contemporary.

Our Workshops are not about copying what’s in front of you but designing and making something of your own. You’ll learn all you need to know about how to do that in the session.

Most of our students haven’t painted in a long time. This painting class is suitable for beginners as well as those with a little more artistic experience, so don't worry if it's your first time. Your teacher will be on hand to provide guidance and answer any questions. We just ask that you treat Ula with respect by listening to her demonstration as well as her advice.

At the end of your art class, you'll get the chance to stand back and admire your beautiful Japanese painting. You'll head home with your piece and a new skill that's perfect to practice whenever you're looking to clear your head.

A Hot drink is included within your ticket price. Please make a note of the workshop location and it's full address: 1, Spinningfields, 1 Quay St, Manchester M3 3EB. The cafe is located inside the No.1 Spinningfields building which is in the same building as M&S Food.

*Towards the end of the workshop there will be an opportunity for you to get your photo taken. We will use these photos for social media and promotional use. Please let us know if you're not comfortable with this.
