If you’re a business leader in or around Hertford with a soft spot for local heritage and a flair for the theatrical, clear your diary for Friday 24th October 2025. Something rather unique is taking place and you’re invited to be right at the heart of it.Hertford Museum is launching a bold and brilliant fundraising event, and we’re calling on the town’s business community to help make it unforgettable. Enter: Jailbreak from Hertford Castle - a tongue-in-cheek twist on charity fundraising that will see local professionals voluntarily locked up in the castle’s historic dungeons to raise bail money in support of one of Hertford’s most treasured cultural institutions.
On the day of the event, local business owners and community figures will be ceremoniously “arrested” and taken to Hertford Castle, where they’ll be escorted to the dungeon cells for their sentence. To escape? Each prisoner must raise a minimum of £500 in “bail” money through donations from colleagues, clients, friends and family.
Those who go above and beyond in their fundraising efforts will not go unnoticed. The individual who raises the most will be crowned Breakout Boss of Hertford, a prestigious (and slightly tongue-in-cheek) title that comes with full honours, media coverage and eternal local bragging rights.
