Ray Brown loved singers. He said so on the record. His trio spent years accompanying some of the greatest voices in jazz, and when he finally made an album in their honour, he called it exactly what it was.
Adelaide Jazz Club takes its cue from that spirit. Some of My Best Friends Are Singers is an evening built around a rhythm section musician who understands the singular art of accompanying the human voice.
Jackson Mack is one of Adelaide's most accomplished young musicians: a drummer, composer and arranger who has shared the stage with Jazzmeia Horn, James Muller, Victor Gould and Clayton Doley, and who leads one of the city's most exciting big bands. For this show, he brings his trio — featuring Mark Simeon Ferguson on piano — and invites some of the most promising emerging voices in Adelaide jazz to take the spotlight.
The singers change each night. The standards do not.
