Islamesque: The Hidden Islamic Story of Lincoln Cathedral
About this Event
What if some of the features we admire most in Europe's great cathedrals were inspired by the Islamic world?
Join cultural historian Diana Darke on a richly illustrated journey from Syria and Egypt, across North Africa and into Spain and Sicily, uncovering the hidden influences that travelled into medieval Europe. Along the way, you'll discover how these ideas helped shape Romanesque and Gothic architecture, before taking a fresh look at the remarkable Islamic influences woven into the fabric of Lincoln Cathedral.
The evening will also uncover stories from the Reimagining Lincolnshire archive, revealing hidden and unexpected connections between Islamic history and Lincolnshire's own rich heritage.
