About this Event
Join Print: A Bookstore in welcoming the winner of Yale Series of Younger Poets prize, Isabel Neal, who will be launching her poetry collectionThrown Voice!
The 120th winner of the Yale Series of Younger Poets prize celebrates the voice felt twice—once in the body, once in the world
Isabel Neal’s prizewinning volume bears with confidence its central tensions between beauty and the unseen, contact and the mysterious, arrival and undoing. Both tender and forceful in their curiosity, these poems are vocally sharp, strange, freely moving and then utterly still. Thrown Voice travels along the poet’s image-worlds and beloved waterways in wholly unexpected ways: “A thaw thunders loose / Just one mink darkens the ice / A live ampersand.”
Isabel Neal is the author of Thrown Voice, which won the 2025 Yale Younger Poets Prize, selected by Rae Armantrout. Her work appears or is forthcoming in Waxwing, The Yale Review, Tupelo Quarterly, The Academy of American Poets Poem-a-Day, and elsewhere. Isabel was a 2024 Lighthouse Works Fellow and has been the recipient of fellowships and grants from Haystack Open Studio, the James Merrill House, the Rackham International Institute, the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center, and the Vermont Studio Center. She holds an M.F.A. in Poetry from the University of Michigan, and lives and works in southern Maine.
