Raised in a musical household and immersed in traditional fiddle from an early age, Millie
developed a strong instrumental voice that continues to inform her sound. The name "Irish
Millie" traces back to an adventuresome character she created as a child, a nod to her Irish
family roots, who eventually joined her on stage and remains with her today. Her writing,
however, moves in a different direction—favouring plainspoken language and repetition over
abstraction. “I tend to write when I feel like I’m about to lose something,”
