Introduction to Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

This training session introduces counsellors to the principles and practice of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), a practical approach that can help clients move forward without becoming stuck in problem narratives.

Participants will learn how to shift conversations toward strengths, resources, and preferred futures, using core SFBT techniques such as scaling questions, exception-finding, and goal construction.

The session will enable practitioners to integrate solution-focused methods immediately into their existing therapeutic style, offering a respectful, collaborative framework that enhances client agency, builds momentum, and supports meaningful change efficiently and ethically.

About the presenter:

Jono Prosser is a Trustee at Arun Counselling Centre. He is a dedicated and experienced Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Health Service Leader with over 35 years of service in the NHS, including significant leadership roles in clinical and digital domains, seeking post-retirement opportunities in non-executive director roles, trustee positions, pro bono participation work and consultancy work to continue contributing to the healthcare and non-profit care sectors.
