A weekend course exploring the core ethics and principles of Permaculture and how to apply them in your home, garden, workplace or community
About this Event

Permaculture is a holistic design approach that uses the patterns and principles found in natural ecosystems to create sustainable and regenerative ways of living. It focuses on designing system, such as gardens, farms, homes, and communities, that meet human needs for food, shelter, water, and energy while enhancing, rather than depleting, the natural environment. Guided by the ethics of caring for the Earth, caring for people, and sharing resources fairly, permaculture encourages working with nature, valuing diversity, reducing waste, and building resilient systems that can thrive over the long term.

This year’s Permaculture programme at the Environment Centre is being delivered through a partnership with Helygen Permaculture CIC, a new community‑focused training organisation founded by Paul Jennings and Luke Peake. Helygen was created to support practical, accessible ecological education in Swansea and across Cymru, helping people build the skills and confidence needed to design for a regenerative future.

Their teaching is rooted in real design practice you’ll work through simple design challenges, experiment with practical tools, and begin thinking like a designer from the outset. They also emphasise the community‑building ethos at the heart of Permaculture, creating a supportive learning space where people share ideas, build confidence, and form a community of practice.

Paul and Luke bring complementary experience to this work. Paul is a long‑standing Permaculture designer, teacher and practitioner with more than thirty years’ experience across community projects, ecological design and food growing. Luke is a PDC graduate, an innovative designer, organic grower and community activist whose work is rooted in creativity, collaboration and hands-on learning. Together, they’re developing a thoughtful, community‑centred approach to Permaculture training that blends solid design skills with the relational ethos at the heart of the movement.
