'Introduction to MoRPh CSci' training event on the River Lea
About this Event
This one-day course will train you to undertake a MoRPh CSci survey, which assesses the physical health of rivers. The training is part of the 'Rewilding the Old River Lea' project , where MoRPh will be used to monitor the recovery of the river following restoration works.
Why MoRPh? The MoRPh survey records physical habitat, vegetation and human impacts on short river lengths, so it is used for assessing river health and monitoring change. Surveys are entered into the MoRPh Citizen Science database which produces a series of condition indicators about the health of the river. This introductory video provides further information about the MoRPh survey. Come and join a national community of over 1000 surveyors!
What does the training involve? The course will qualify you to become a MoRPh CSci surveyor. This one-day training includes a morning of classroom teaching, followed by riverside field training in the afternoon. We will be visiting a soon-to-be-restored section of the Old River Lea to collect important 'pre-works' information.
Who is MoRPh CSci training for? This training is for volunteers and river enthusiasts who are interested in gathering evidence about the physical health of rivers. Following the training, there will be opportunities for interested surveyors to collect data on the Old River Lea following restoration works, to monitor its recovery.
Numbers are limited and booking is essential!
The training event is kindly provided through the 'Rewild Old River Lea' project, created by Nature Works and supported by Hackey Council and the Mayor of London. The training is delivered by Cartographer, who co-ordinate and host the national MoRPh CSci programme.
