Introduction to Herbal Tea Blending

Spend some time at the tea bar learning the basics of blending your own herbal teas at home! In this hands-on workshop, we’ll explore how different herbs work together in a blend, from choosing a base and building flavour to understanding the difference between a tea made simply to taste good and one created with a specific herbal purpose in mind.

We’ll smell, taste and work with a selection of herbs, then you’ll use what you’ve learned to create your own custom tea blend to take home.

Getting to Know the Herbs

We’ll look at a selection of common herbs used in herbal tea blending and talk about their flavour, aroma and traditional uses. We’ll also explore the different parts of the plant used in tea, including leaves, flowers, roots, seeds and fruits.

Herb Cuts + Preparation

Why are some herbs finely cut while others are left whole? We’ll look at common cuts used for herbal teas and how the size and part of the plant can affect blending, brewing and the finished cup.

Building a Balanced Tea

Learn a simple structure for creating a well-rounded blend, including how to choose your main herbs, supporting herbs and smaller accents that bring flavour and aroma to the cup.

Medicinal vs. Tasty

Sometimes the herbs we want in a blend aren't necessarily the ones that taste the best. We’ll talk about how herbalists approach functional tea blends while still creating something enjoyable enough to drink regularly.

Blend Your Own Tea

Using what you’ve learned, you’ll choose from our selection of herbs and create your own custom blend. We’ll help you think through flavour, proportions and how the herbs work together before you blend and package your tea to take home.

No previous herbal knowledge is needed. Come curious, play with some plants and leave with a better understanding of what goes into a really good herbal tea.
