Wild fruits, plants, roots, honey and maple can turn water into a delicious wine. In this class, we will learn how to create a decadent fermented treat. We will go over recipes for berry, citrus, herbs, and root wines. Students will have possible options of making rhubarb, elderberry, wild blueberry, white pine, beet root, rosehip, honey, or maple. Some other options will become available closer to the class.
This class is a basic introduction to brewing and fermentation. We will go over the ingredients and equipment used in the making of wine and mead. Students will go through the process of making wine and making their own one-gallon batch. The class will go over the fermentation process and how to measure levels of sugar to determine the levels of alcohol. We will also review the process of sterilizing and bottling. Students will have a chance to sample wines and mead. Note that we will have about 4-8oz of mead per person throughout the day. Snacks will be available as well.
Each student will walk away from the class with the understanding of the process wines and mead. All students will receive the following items during class to take home: One-gallon carboy Airlock Hydrometer, cylinder and brush Ingredients for batch of wine Directions and material list on bottling.
This course is intended for beginner home brewers, wine makers, mead makers and any other fermentation hobbyist. Attending this class will be a great way to learn about this ancient beverage and connect with others, and of course learn a skill for life.
