Introduction to Flameworking: The Bottle Shop

In this one-day introductory flameworking workshop, students will get a hands-on taste of working with molten glass at the torch. Designed for complete beginners, this class moves step-by-step through the fundamentals of working with borosilicate glass.

We’ll start slow by learning to gather, control, and shape glass while making a solid marble - an exercise that builds the core skills used in nearly every flameworking process. Once everyone is comfortable with the torch, we’ll take it a step further and explore the magic of hollow forms by creating a tiny glass bottle.

Along the way, students will learn about heat control, essential tools, and how glass moves in the flame, while experiencing the rhythm and excitement of working in the studio at Pilchuck Glass School. Expect a supportive environment, plenty of coaching, and the chance to make your first glass objects in a fun and energetic setting.

Nicole Berger, creator of Cold Berger Glass, is a Denver-based glass artist specializing in pipes, jewelry and home goods. A Tyler School of Art graduate inspired by 1990s pop culture, her work features bold colors, geometric forms, and nostalgic motifs. Nicole now travels globally, teaching workshops and sharing her passion for glass while continuing to evolve her craft.
