Join us for a fascinating journey into the unique world of Alpine Ecosystems with expert naturalist, Kathy Brazelton!
About this Event

Have you ever wanted to learn more about the Tundra and how living things survive the harsh conditions? Explore the wonders of Rocky Mountain National Park's land with no trees through activities, field studies, and observations. Together, we'll unravel the mysteries of the high country and the plants and animals that call it home.

This two-day outdoor course is led by retired RMNP ranger, Kathy Brazelton, and promises an up close and informative exploration of one of Rocky's most unique ecosystems. We'll spend each day up in the alpine, getting to know the flora, fauna, and weather conditions that make this both a challenging place to survive and a magical place to visit. We hope you'll join us!

Who: Participants ages 16 and up. This is a Level II course. Expect short-distance walks throughout the day, primarily on level terrain. Please be prepared to spend a full day outdoors each day.

When: Tuesday, July 16, AND Wednesday, July 17, from 8:00am to 4:00pm each day

Where: We will meet at the Fall River Visitor Center, 3450 Fall River Road, Estes Park, and travel together in Conservancy vehicles to various sites in Rocky Mountain National Park. All necessary park entry fees and permits are included in your course registration.

What to bring:

  • 10 Essentials for Field Courses, including a sack lunch.
  • Sun protection is especially important on the tundra! Make sure you have sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat. Sunglasses are also recommended.
  • Optional: camera, hand lens or magnifying glass.

About your instructor: Kathy Brazelton is recently retired from Rocky Mountain National Park, having been a National Park Service ranger for over 33 years at 6 National Park Service areas, holding positions in Interpretation, Law Enforcement, and Resource Management. She holds a B.S. in Forestry/Outdoor Recreation with a minor in Natural Resources Management from Colorado State University, and an M.S. from Southern Oregon State University in Outdoor Education with a minor in Plant Ecology.

Conservancy members get 15% off individual registration when you use the discount code in your membership email! Limit 2 per membership.
