About this Event

Do state academic standards have a place in mountain adventures? We think so!

Some of the most treasured Naturalists of the past have found hands-on experiences to be the key to learning about the environment. During this 1-day course intended for grade school teachers, participants will find creative ways to build CO state academic standards into our adventures in Rocky Mountain National Park, and how to bring those adventures back to their classrooms. Come to class ready to hike, observe, document, and make the most of a day in the mountains!

Who: Grade school teachers, home school educators, and instructional coaches. This is a Level II course. Expect short-distance walks throughout the day, primarily on level terrain.

When: Friday, June 7, from 8:00am - 4:00pm

Where: Meet at the Fall River Visitor Center, 3450 Fall River Road, Estes Park, CO and travel together into Rocky Mountain National Park

What to bring:

  • Please be prepared to spend a full day outdoors in RMNP, including time above 10,000 ft.
  • RMC’s Field Institute 10 Essentials,
  • Bag lunch,
  • Copy of the CO academic standards you'd like to reflect on (optional but recommended),
  • Camera and note-taking materials (recommended)

About your Instructor: Steve Johnson first moved to Estes Park in 1972 and has been exploring the area for 45 years. Steve continues to hike, climb, and discover more of the environment in Rocky Mountain National Park.
